Wayne Anderson Obituary

Wayne Anderson was born in Butler, Alabama, on August 24, 1958, to the late Roosevelt and Catherlean (Jones) Anderson. Wayne accepted Christ at an early age at Oak Grove Baptist Church and later joined Pineville Missionary Baptist Church. He was married to Nona Estine Williams. The union was blessed with three children: Tarisa, Roderick, and Brandon. He peacefully departed this life at home on Tuesday, November 26, 2019, surrounded by his loving family.

Wayne attended Choctaw County Public Schools and graduated from Southern Choctaw High School in Silas, Alabama.  He was employed at Northern Electric/Sunbeam Company in Waynesboro, Mississippi, for many years until a work-related injury ended his employment. In the early 1990s, he decided to return to college to further his education. He attended Livingston University (Univ. of West Alabama), where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Elementary Education (1995) and Master’s Degree in School Counseling (1999).

Working over 20 years as an educator in Sumter and Choctaw Counties, Wayne was employed as an elementary school teacher at Livingston Junior High School. He was then employed as a school counselor at Livingston Junior High School and Livingston High School. In later years, he was employed as a school counselor at Choctaw County High School until his retirement in 2017. He was a member of the Alabama Counseling Association, Choctaw County Education Association, and the Alabama Education Association. He also served on the town council of Toxey, AL.

Wayne was preceded in death by his older brothers: Roosevelt Anderson and Lovell Anderson, Sr.; his nephew: Jimmy Neal Thornton; his brother-in-law: Jimmy Ray Thornton; and his sisters-in-law: LaJewel Parker and Sheron Brown-Gary.

Left to cherish his precious memories are his loving and devoted wife of 41 years: Nona Estine Anderson; three loving children: Tarisa (Henry) Williams of Mobile, AL; Roderick Anderson of Alpharetta, GA; Brandon (Brittany) Anderson of Semmes, AL; and three adorable grandchildren: Henry Mitchell Williams, III., Bri’Lynn Raquel Anderson, and Briley RaeChelle Anderson.

He also leaves behind four devoted sisters: Katie Anderson of Detroit, MI; Ada Thornton of Toxey, AL; Dorothy (Jimmy) Nicholson of Needham, AL; Dorothy Jean Anderson of Melvin, AL; one brother, Lonnie (Patricia) Anderson of Detroit, MI; a host of nieces and nephews including devoted nieces: Teresa (Michael) Sanders, Sharon (Jeffrey) Parker, Stacey Nicholson, Geneva Goodwin, and Tamika Anderson; special nephews: Shawnie (Sheba) Anderson, Len (Tammy) Anderson, Ken Nicholson, Keith (Cassandra) Thornton, Brad Anderson, and Wayne Anderson; a special great niece and nephew: Samantha Anderson and Jacoby Parker; three sisters-in-law: Janis (Al-Malik) Shabazz of San Antonio, TX; Jacqueline Brown of Greenwood, MS; Shirley (Willie) Grace of Montgomery, AL; and four brothers-in-law: Fredrick Williams of Chicago, IL; Floyd (Lorna) Williams of San Antonio, TX; Tommy (Dwana) Williams of Winston-Salem, NC; Gwin Williams of Columbus Junction, Iowa;  and a host of relatives and friends.
