Ruby Lee Larkin Campbell was born on November 11, 1937 to Annie Ruth Hayden Larkin and Dansby Bryant Larkin. Ruby was the second of fourteen children born to Annie Ruth and Dansby Larkin. Ruby was married to the late Eli Samuel Campbell, Sr. until his death in 1989. Ruby departed this life on May 24th surrounded by family.
She accepted Christ at an early age and joined Pleasant Hill Baptist Church where she served as the primary age group Sunday School Teacher. Ruby also served as a choir member, deaconess and a member of the Board of Trustees. She was always diligent and unwavering in her service to Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
Ruby began her career as an educator at Petty Hill School at seventeen years old. She was an educator of students in the Choctaw County area for nearly forty years. Ruby taught at Kinterbish, #2, Lisman Jr. High School and she ultimately retired from East Choctaw Junior High School in 1995. Even after formally retiring, Ruby continued to educate day care aged children at Tender Loving Care Day Care. She was an educator to her core and always saw the potential in the children she touched, especially her grandchildren.
She had a strong and quite resolve who fiercely supported her siblings, children, grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews. She never hesitated to lend her support to serve the needs of her family, community and her church. She loved fresh flowers, studying the scripture and cooking. Ruby Campbell leaves to cherish her children, Terry Campbell Dixon (Matthew) of Pushmataha, AL, Barron Griffin of Pushmataha, AL, Quita Campbell Traylor (Kendrick, I) of Pushmataha, AL, Tammye Campbell Brown (Garry) of Jackson, MS and Eli Campbell, Jr. of Birmingham, AL; a daughter she loved as her own, Tallitha Lawson (Eddie, Sr.); her grandchildren Walter Earl Hampton, II, Cornelius Antoine Dixon, Madyson Ivory Brown, Morgan Campbell Brown, Kendrick DeShon Traylor, II, Ameko Campbell, Rodney Campbell, Shafford Campbell, Timothy Lawson, Tallitha Wheeler, Eddie Lawson, Jr., Mattatha Johnson, Bennie Lawson, Mable Sharp, GlenDora Lawson and Shirley Lawson; her greatgrandchildren, Nevaeh Hampton, Huey Hampton and Cameron Turner.
Ruby also leaves to cherish her siblings, Annie Evans, Dansby Larkin, Essie Harrison, Mildred Larkin, Sylvia Hampton, Deborah Larkin and Juanakee Larkin; a sister-in-law, Odet Delaine, and a host of nieces, nephews.
Ruby was predeceased by husband, Eli Samuel Campbell, Sr.; parents, Annie Ruth Larkin and Dansby Larkin; brothers, Walter, Thomas and Bryant Larkin; sisters, Betty Jean Larkin Brown, Dorothy Larkin Kindle and Helen Larkin Fox; daughter, Rita Campbell; brothers-in-law, Levi Campbell and Gabriel Campbell; and granddaughter, Darlene Lawson.
