Pauline Johnson Obituary

Pauline Wimberly Johnson was the third child born to the late Reverend Paul A. Wimberly and the late Minnie Collins Wimberly on March 14, 1936 in Yantley, AL.  Pauline departed this life to enter Eternal Glory on September 6, 2022, while being surrounded by her loved ones at home in New Orleans, LA.  Pauline loved the Lord and her family with her whole heart!  Pauline was married to the late Reverend Fred Johnson in June of 1954. They were blessed with six children: Juanita Gordon of Lisman, AL, Lorraine J. (Terence) Walker of Lithonia, GA, Betty J. (Ferron) Kellar, Fred Allen Johnson (Essie "Kitty" Brocks), Leon S. Johnson, and Angel L. Johnson, all of New Orleans, LA. "...Her children arise up and call her blessed..." (Proverbs 31:28).

Pauline was educated in the Choctaw County School System.  She was a member of Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church until she and her family relocated to New Orleans, LA.  She joined the Ray Avenue Baptist Church where she faithfully served three pastors: the late Pastor Irvin Stafford, Sr., the late Pastor Robert Johnson, Sr., and the current Pastor Robert Brown.  Mother Johnson was an active member of Ray Avenue until her health declined.  Mother Johnson will be missed for her nourishing spirit; she felt that her food was good for the body and soul.  She never met a stranger; she would talk to anyone and feed them too.  She lived the Word of God! Days before her transition, she along with her family, kept giving God all the praise for all the glorious things He had done! Mother Johnson’s favorite Bible verses were Johns 14:1-4, her favorite song was “What A Friend We Have in Jesus,” and her favorite color was blue.

She leaves to cherish her memories her beloved 6 children, her loving 21 grandchildren, her dear 42 great-grandchildren, and her precious 3 great-great-grandchildren.  Also, to cherish her memories, her adored 3 brothers and their wives, David (Shirley) Wimberly, Otis Wimberly, Sr., and Frank (Irene) Wimberly, her loved cousins Daisy G. McRae and Willie Mack Gordon, and many nephews, nieces, cousins, Ray Avenue Baptist Church Family, the Rosedale Community “The Goose,” and many other family and friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her brothers, Tommie, Sr. and Moses Wimberly; her sisters, Louise Wimberly, Inez Early, and Patricia W. Horton; brothers-in-love and sisters-in-love; her father and mother-in-love, Ed and Ida Johnson; 4 grandchildren, uncles, aunts, and other relatives.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
