Katrina Portis Fuertes was the baby girl born to Jack and Shirley Portis on November 11, 1968. She accepted Christ at a young age and joined the Ray Ave Baptist Church of New Orleans, LA. She graduated from Marion Abramson Senior High School in New Orleans, LA. She lived in New Orleans for 30 years, there she met and married the love of her life Roland Fuertes. They were together for 25 years and have 3 children.
Katrina attended cosmetology school where she received her cosmetology license in the state of Louisiana. She worked on the dietary staff of Total Community Action (TCA) up until hurricane “Katrina” relocated her to Tennessee for a few years. She later returned home to New Orleans where she worked for St. Lutheran Nursing Home as a care giver, where she truly enjoyed one on one time with patients. When her health started to decline, she retired from the workforce and fully enjoyed life! You could always count on “Trina” to have a good time. Katrina was the life of the party, she lived unapologetically. Later after the birth of her grandson PJ, she took on full care of him.
She returned to Cuba, AL where she is preceded in death by: her parents, Jack and Shirley Portis, and her son, Karell Portis Sr. She loved her family and will be missed. She leaves to cherish her memories: her husband Roland Fuertes; 2 children, Tyesha Fuertes and Kedrick (Tamara) Portis Sr. of New Orleans, LA; 5 grandchildren, Karell “PJ” Portis Jr., Kendrick Portis Jr., Da’Maria Coopa, India and China Fuertes; 4 sisters, Andria Jemison of Cuba, AL, Floretta Portis and Zelda Randolph of New Orleans, LA and Ungenetta (Troy) Green of Kingsland, GA; 3 brothers, Prentiss Amerson of Huntsville, AL, Stanley Jemison and Andrea (Shannon) Jemison of Cuba, AL; 2 notable brothers, Tramaine Moss of Cuba, AL and Brent Koen of Yantley, AL; 2 sisters-in-law, Trellis Fuertes and Carolyn (Tony) King; 1 brother-in-law, Joshua Fuertes and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
