Gwendolyn Traylor Obituary

Gwendolyn L. Traylor daughter of Abraham Traylor Sr. and Beatrice Traylor was born on April 6, 1958, in Alabama. She departed this life on Wednesday, September 2, 2021, in Tuscaloosa, Alabama.

Gwen affectionately known as Hoolie amongst family and friends traveled to Wilmington, DE at a very young age with her mother and older brothers. The bible says “Train up a child in the way it should go and he will not depart.” Gwen’s love for God was instilled in her by her beloved mother, Beatrice Traylor. Gwen enjoyed attending church with her and would always end her telephone calls with acknowledging the Lord and requesting prayer.

She received her early education in the public schools, Cool Springs Elementary and Wilmington High School of Delaware. Upon graduating high school, she followed in her father’s footsteps and enlisted in the Armed Forces, United States Air Force where she served her country in Gulf War.

After receiving an honorable discharge from the Army, Hoolie traveled around the world and held various employment. Gwen also had a loved collecting antiques.  Gwen could always recognize the beauty in classic automobiles.  Most of all Gwen cherished her family. Gwen loved researching and finding relatives all over the world. She always encouraged her immediate family to attend the Traylor, Johnson, and Gatson family reunions. She would always say, “You should know your family and the history of the family.” Gwen loved the idea of family: caring, sharing and loving one another. She was so grateful to her family looking after her when she relocated to Alabama. Gwen was a gentle, sweet, person. She was soft spoken and enjoyed good food.

Gwen was preceded in death by her father; Abraham Traylor, mother; Beatrice Traylor; three brothers: Simmie, Wymon and Marzette Traylor.

Gwen leaves to cherish her memory: one brother Abraham Traylor (Nicole), of Bear, DE; two sisters: Mary and Yvette Traylor of Wilmington, DE; devoted aunts, uncles and a host of cousins, nieces, and nephews.

Friends and family have shared their relationship to show their support.
