Charlie Turner Obituary

Minister Charlie Mae Turner was born on Tuesday, July 30, 1940 to the late Charlie Ann Cook and Elmore Johnson, Sr.  She was born the baby child of her mother, and one of 15 children of her father.  She departed her life on Wednesday, May 13, 2020 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.

Charlie Mae attended Lisman Jr. High School.  She worked at Bill’s Dollar Store in Butler, Alabama.  Being such a compassionate person, she was a private nurse’s aide and domestic care giver for several years.

She confessed Christ at an early age and joined Little Walker CME Church, and later with C&J Holiness Church.  The church name was changed to Evangel Tabernacle Worship Center.  After receiving her calling from God into the ministry, she was Assistant Pastor, and mother of the church.  Minister Turner was also Superintendent of Sunday school.  Mama had a special love of planting flowers and beautifying her yard.  She also loved ministering God’s words and searching the web.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her second mother, Ruby Johnson; her grandmother, Mattie Eddie; four sisters, Mary Alice Foster, Eatha Johnson, Sarah Everett and Sara Gaillard; three brothers, Joe Evans, Robert Evans and Andrew Johnson; sister-in-law, Bertha Evans; two sons-in-law, Arthur G. Adams, Sr. and James E. Ruffin.

To forever cherish her memory, she leaves 5 children: Gloria Adams, Janice Ruffin and Pamela Turner, all of Butler, Alabama; 2 sons, Minister Clinton Turner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Wesley Turner of Butler, Alabama; two devoted daughters-in-law, Deborah Turner of Milwaukee, Wisconsin and Stephanie Turner of Butler, Alabama; 19 grandchildren, Keila (Ken) Richardson, Andretta (Desmond) Sturdivant, Anitra L. Adams (Jonathan Murphy), Arthur G. Adams, Jr. (Antionette Scarborough), Redrick (Amber) Adams, Jasmine Robinson, Lezar (Alicia) Burnside, William (Denise) Carter III, Shanise Ruffin (Forrolder Howell), Jamesha Blanks, Sherida Turner (Markell Holland), Marvin Turner, Jr. (Destiny Wheat), ShaQuandra Glover, Tyeisha (Russell) Bellamy, QuanShayla Glover, ShanDrekka Glover, Montrell Turner (Moesha Thornton), Montrae Turner, Jaleisa Turner; 29 great-grandchildren, Damayia Sturdivant, Akira Sturdivant, Addison Sturdivant, Desmond Sturdivant, Jr., Amari Adams, Aaronontae Robinson, Rha’miya Robinson, Jaz’mere Robinson, Jaida Robinson, Trinity Burnside, Lyric Burnside, D’yonsha Burnside, Kevion Ruffin, Kentavis Blanks, Gavin Cowan, Trenton Ruffin, Kaylynn Carter, Logan Ruffin, Amina Ali, Ninti Ali, Makayla Holland, Carter Holland, Kaylei Tucker, Jordan Tucker, Karson Mitchell, Jamari Bellamy, Jason Bellamy, Kaleb Sayles, Harlie C. Dorothy Wallace; a loving & devoted niece, Lucille Raye; a host of nieces, nephews, family and friends.

She will be greatly missed, but forever remembered by all who knew and loved her.
