Bernice Jones

Bernice was born to proud parents Jasper Yates and Mabis Ezell Yates on March 16, 1935 in Cromwell Alabama. She had one sister (Ella). Bernice accepted Christ as her savior at a very early age with the Shiloh C.M.E. Church in Lisman Alabama. Bernice completed her education at Choctaw County Training High School in Lisman, Alabama. After finishing school, she married Quincey Venuard Jones and from this union their son Otto was born in December of 1954. In 1958 Bernice decided to leave the great state of Alabama to start a new life for herself and her son in Los Angeles, California where she met Willie (Bill) Black whom she later married. She worked numerous jobs in culinary arts. Over the coming years Bernice and her husband Bill opened a couple of restaurants in Los Angeles, one serving delicious soul food and the other serving bar-b-que. After many years of being self-employed Bernice decided to start a new career working for Norththrop Grumman until she retired in 1994.

Bernice departed this life on January 27, 2022 joining son; Otto Jones, mother; Mabis Ezell Yates, husband; Willie (Bill)Black, sister; Ella B Yates and Father; Jasper Yates all who preceded her in death. Leaving to cherish and preserve her memories with grandsons Quincy V. Jones, Phillip Chapman and a host of family and friends.

Bernice was a very loving and caring spirit. She was always willing to help anyone that was in need. She took care of her mother Mabis and sister Ella until their passing. She will be sadly missed for many years to come.
