Ida Mae Gordon-Spears was born August 25, 1931 to the late Roosevelt and Robbie Gordon in Yantley, Alabama. After an extended illness she transitioned into eternity on Thursday, May 23, 2019 at the Choctaw General Hospital, Butler, Alabama.
Ida Mae accepted Christ at an early age and joined the Pleasant Hill Missionary Baptist Church and was an active member of the Choir and the Mission Board until her health failed. Also, she was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary VFW Post #5848 and Brookin Chapter #166 Order of the Eastern Star. She attended Choctaw County Training School, Lisman, Alabama and retired from Vanity Fair Mills, Butler, Alabama after many years of service.
Ida Mae was united in holy matrimony to the late Cubie Spears. She was preceded in death by her mother, Robbie Gordon, father, Roosevelt Gordon; one stepson: Clifton Spears, three sisters Charity Keeton, Annie L. Moss, and Ella Pearl Horn, one great grandson, Andrew Curtis Jr.; two loving friends Mamie Holcombe and Lela Harbin.
Ida Mae leaves to cherish her memories three children: Rosie R (Lee-James) Edwards Jr., Lisman, Alabama; Leon (Sharon) Ruffin, Cleveland, Ohio; Linda F (Orlando) Office, Lisman, Alabama; seven grandchildren: Lee J. Edwards III, Rodrick C. Office, Robyn L. Edwards, Terry Spears, Etta (Andrew) Curtis, Clifton (Tracy) Spears, Demothenese (Caretta) Spears; nine great grandchildren: Aalliyah, Gabriel, Brenden, and Kelahnni Edwards, Johnkavean and Jadarrian Mosley, Torey Ruffin, Mataviun Land, Darielle Spears; one daughter-in-law: Hazel Spears, Lisman, Alabama; one sister Georgia M. McRae, Yantley, Alabama; two brothers: R.D. Straggling, Ohio, Johnnie (Prentella) Graham, Riderwood, Alabama; a host of nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
