Gussie D. Brown was born January 23, 1932 to the late Robert and Dillie Foster. She was blessed with 12 siblings of whom she was the oldest daughter, six preceded her in death. (Robert E. Foster, James T. Foster, Charles E. Foster, John L. Foster and the baby girl Johnnie M. Foster) She leaves to cherish her memories five sisters Lorine Irby (Meridian, MS) Jessie Glasford (Brooklyn, NY) Janie Fitch (Joliet, IL) Margie Foster-Reed (Columbus, Ohio) and Anne Osei (Alexandria, VA).
In 1969, Gussie moved to New York in search of a better life, and to maintain a secure future. She was employed at The Helbros Watch Company where she was invited by a co-worker to the Soul Saving Church, 302 W 124th Street. There she became an active member and volunteered in community services. She lived the beatitude by serving others, whether it was serving food, or making cakes and pies which everyone loved. She would bake a turkey and take it to the church in a minute. Gussie also clothed the naked and gave a helping hand wherever she could.
Gussie married Claud Woodard Sr. to this union two children were born Claud Jr. and Gladys (Bishop James) Jones. Later she married Walter Brown Sr and to this union came one child Walter Charles Brown Jr.
Gussie made the transition at the Mt Sinai Hospital with her sister at her side on April 24, 2018. Also left behind are five grands, one great grand, and a host of nieces and nephews.
