Alma D Edwards

July 18, 1930 ~ December 16, 2016 (age 86) 86 Years Old

SISTER Alma D. Edwards was born to the Late Truddie Mills and Johnnie Jackson Sr. in Ararat Alabama on July 18, 1930.  After her Mother’s early death, she was raised by her Maternal Aunt ‘Big Mama’, Ethel Mills Ray. After a lengthy illness, she entered into eternity on Friday, December 16, 2016 at the Jeff Anderson Regional Medical Center, Meridian, Ms.

SISTER Edwards was well loved by all.  She attended Choctaw County Training School and was later united in holy matrimony to the Late Brother Lee James Edwards, Sr. To this union, six beautiful children were born. Sister Edwards took pride with her late husband of educating their six children. Each of the children are college graduates and went on to achieve professional success as educators, including school principal, businessmen, and a Physician. Sister Edwards joined the Shiloh CME Church where she was a faithful member for more than 60 years and actively served as a Steward, Stewardess, Missionary and Treasurer.

SISTER Edwards was active in her community serving as a member of the VFW Auxiliary. She believed in the ultimate definition of citizenship always exercising her right to vote no matter how large or small the election. She was also a loyal employee of the One Stop Store in Lisman for over 30 years where she became well known for her culinary skills especially preparing her signature dish, macaroni and cheese,  

SISTER Edwards was preceded in death by her second oldest son, Charles. She leaves to cherish her memories and to be representatives of her compassion and kindness four sons: Lee (Rose); Donald (Bernice); Luther (Geraldine); Michael (LaKenya); one daughter, Truddie Edwards Darden (Alvin); one stepdaughter, Magnolia Edwards; one Goddaughter, Demetria Woods; one brother-in-law, Joseph Oakley; and one sister-in-law, Ethel Jackson.  Four sisters and three brothers preceded her in death: Abbie Herron, Annie Days, Janice McDonald, Lillie Wilson, Johnnie Jackson, Jr., Bobby Jackson and Willie Jackson.  Additional adoring memories are shared by her 13 Grandchildren: Lee III, Robyn, Dawn, Ashley, Micheryl Alicia, Kelsey, Alvin IV ‘Kip’, Charise, Akeem, Kenneth, Keith, Micheryl Jacques and Judith; 14 Great Grandchildren, Aallayah, Brenden, Aerial, Kylia, Kailey, Gabriel, Camden, Kayla, Brooks, Jaye, Alexander, Phillip, Tereance, and Kendra. Special memories will be shared by many including committed cousins Linda Turner Gaines and Regina Bryant; a cousin who has been like a son, Mike Daniel Pennington; a devoted niece, Christine Jackson; longtime family friend and Godmother to Sister Edwards’ children, Gladys Johnson; many loyal friends including Ida Mae Spears, Gladys Horn, Mary K. Mitchell, Lillian Hodge, the entire Shiloh CME Church Family and long term caregiver, Andretta Pruitt. Countless fond memories also will be held by a host of other nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
