Obituary

Tommy Lee Lloyd was born February 2, 1952 in Yantley, Alabama to Gertrude Florence Lloyd and Julius Ruffin.  He departed this life May 4, 2023 at Rush Foundation Hospital in Meridian, Mississippi.

He was educated in the Choctaw County School System.  After high school, he worked at various places in the Choctaw County and Meridian areas.  He later moved to Racine, Wisconsin and then to Minneapolis, Minnesota.  During that time, Tommy worked in various occupations, including the Bell City foundry, a school bus driver, and as a truck driver.

He relocated back to his roots in Yantley, Alabama, where he became part of a loving village that embraced and looked out for him during his illness.  Tommy enjoyed fishing, hunting, gardening, growing fruits, vegetables, and sharing them with family and friends.  He was fondly called “Rock” by family and friends.

Tommy confessed Christ at an early age and joined Little Hope Baptist Church. He later joined Christian Fellowship Baptist Church, under the leadership of Pastor Robert Webb.  One of his proudest moments was when he was ordained as a deacon in 2019.

He was preceded in death by his mother, father, and three sisters: Mildred Foster, Jeanette Lloyd, Bessie Lott, one brother: Chester Ruffin; and a dear friend, Alfred Glenn.

He leaves to cherish his memories: four sisters, Betsy Perkins of Chicago, IL; Helen (Kenneth) Lumpkin of Racine, WI; Mary (Rev. B. L.) Richardson of Albany, GA; Annie (Donnie) Berry of Racine, WI; Betty Lloyd-Nash of Albany, GA; four brothers, Dwight Lloyd of Atlanta, GA; Kenneth (Shanelle) Lloyd of Florence, SC; Raymond (Betty) Ruffin of Chicago, IL; Rev. Jasper (Martha) Irby of Yantley, AL; a foster child, Quanjavon of Racine, WI; two aunts, Mary Jane Lloyd of Yantley, AL and Doris Lloyd of Prichard, AL; nieces and nephews: Darlene Evans, Tamara Braziel, Valerie Perkins, Norman (Kim) Lloyd, Erica Lloyd, Eric Lloyd, Keon Craddock, Heather (Donte) Adams, Brentic (Tiffany), Briana Richardson, Donnie Berry, and Martell Berry.  He also leaves devoted cousins: Vera (Larry) Clark and Janet Lott; a devoted friend, Cynthia Hines; sisters from another mother: Kissie Johnson-Ford and Emma Webster; an honorary niece, Kenya McRae, and a host of other relatives and friends.
