Marguerite Brown Obituary

Marguerite E. Brown made her joyous arrival into this world on August 12, 1932, to the late Romey and Annie Ephraim in Camden, Alabama.  Our beloved Marguerite took flight to her Heavenly home on June 17, 2018, at home in Birmingham, Alabama.  Awaiting her arrival was her son, Kenneth Brown who left her loving arms much too soon along with her parents, sisters, Ada Jones and Cleola Coleman, other relatives, and friends.

Realizing the need to serve a higher power, Marguerite was baptized at an early age at the Galilee Baptist Church in Fairfield, Alabama, where she served as the Church Secretary for many years.  She later united with Greater First Baptist Church in Lisman, Alabama, where she called home, serving as the Church Clerk, Administrator, and a member of Financial Board for many years.  She was a Choir Member, and actively participated in the Missionary Society serving as Treasurer until her declining health and relocation to Birmingham, Alabama.  Mrs. Brown was loved by her church family, and served in any capacity necessary.

Marguerite graduated from Fairfield Industrial High School in Fairfield, Alabama, and went on to receive her Bachelor’s Degree in English from Miles College in Birmingham, Alabama.   After College she took a teaching position at Choctaw County Training School living in the Teacher’s Home during the week where she made many lifelong friends.  Once Choctaw County Training School became Lisman Jr. High School she continued to educate the youth of the area.  As service was one of her passions, she worked with the Adult Education Program at night ensuring that the Adult community was able to understand and navigate the English, Science, and Math requirements of that time.  She continued to work in the Community after retirement from the Choctaw County School System as the Town of Lisman Clerk under the direction of three mayors, The Late Honorable Anthony S. Butler, The Late Honorable Elizabeth H. Butler, and The Honorable Thomas E. Jackson, II.  She helped prepare documents for much needed Community Grants as well as represented the Town in numerous meetings in many places throughout Alabama to Washington, D.C, to Africa.  It was joked that she was Robin to Anthony’s and Elizabeth’s Batman as she was a trusted friend and confidant that traveled the globe with them and their family.  She also served as the Administrator for Hayden and Butler Funeral Home in Lisman, Alabama, for many years acting as a sounding board and comfort to grieving families.

Marguerite lived life with style, grace, and beauty.  The joy that she had for life was transmitted through her beautiful smile, the sparkle in her eyes, her kind and helpful spirit, and the way she treated others.  Her kindness will never be extinguished from the minds of those who knew her.  Mrs. Brown was a mother, friend, and confidant to many as she opened her heart to all of those around her.  At the death of her friends, Anthony and Elizabeth, she became Mother and Grandmother to their girls Seketha, Sonjia, Seletha, Chandraia, Tersheria, and Hayden.

Marguerite’s Life was a BLESSING.  Her Memory a TREASURE...She was loved beyond words and will be missed beyond Measure.  Marguerite leaves to cherish and treasure her earthly life, three sons, George Brown, Ronald Brown, both of Birmingham, Alabama, and Stephen (Itzel) Brown of Killeen, Texas; Seven Grandchildren:  Christopher Brown, Nikole Walker-Brown, Jasmine Brown, Brandon O’Field, Latressa Thompson, Quinton Brown, and Sean Brown ; 10 Great-Grandchildren:  Christopher Brown Jr, McKenzy Williams, Chloe Martin, Ja'Quavius Weston, Amiria Weston, Lauren Tigner, Ashaunti Parker, Aniya Rembert, Morris Rembert, and Kamarri Collier; Two Sisters:  Annie (Bruce) Robinson of Cincinnati, Ohio, and Dr. Helen Major of Westchester, Pennsylvania; One brother:  Johnny B. (Myrtle) Ephraim of Mobile, Alabama; a host of nephews, nieces, cousins and friends.
