Ida Mae O’Field Townsend was born on December 31, 1939 to her beloved parents, the late John O’Field, Jr. and Viola Nelson O’Field in Choctaw County in Yantley, AL. At the age of 77, she transitioned from this life into eternal rest on January 24, 2017, at her home after spending time with her loved ones. She was baptized at an early age at Mount Mariah Baptist Church in Yantley, AL. She married the late Lonnie G. Townsend, Sr. and they moved to New Orleans, LA when they were very young and became permanent residents. After moving to New Orleans, she became a member of Ray Avenue Baptist Church under the leadership of the late Rev. Irvin Stafford, Sr. After his death, she was under the leadership of the late Rev. Robert Johnson, Sr. After his death, she was under the leadership of Pastor Robert Brown until her death. She was a faithful member until some unforeseen circumstances and her declining health did not allow her to attend church. She was a long-time employee of the former Pendleton Memorial Methodist Hospital from its conception.
She leaves to cherish her memories, two sons, Lonnie G. Townsend, Jr. and Danny Townsend; one daughter, Theresa Townsend Sylvester; one son-in-law, Ernest Sylvester, Jr.; two daughters-in-law, Wanda Townsend and Zelda Townsend, six grandchildren, Irian, Dominique, and Kimberly Townsend, Nina Joseph, Christina Davillier, and Ernest Sylvester III; two great-grandchildren, David Anthony Shields, Jr. and Jemell Joseph; two sisters, Eddie Lee Brown and Pearlie Mae Anderson; seven brothers-in-law; eight sisters-in-law; and a host of nephews, nieces, cousins, a godson, other relatives, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband, her parents, her two sisters, Laura O. Wimberly and Mattie Pearl Traylor, and her two brothers, XL Nelson and Wallace Ray O’Field, Sr.
